Donna Lee Fackenthal, a native of Chicago, has enjoyed playing the piano since the age of eight. As a junior in high school,she won a piano scholarship from the Union League Civic & Arts Foundation of Chicago to study with Saul Dorfman at Chicago Musical College. She studied piano throughout her college years and after graduation from the University of Rochester, she began studying the cello with Marjorie Hunsberger at the Eastman School of Music. Ms. Fackenthal's other primary teachers have been Daniel Schene, Andrea Swan and Svetlana Belsky. Ms. Fackenthal is an independent piano teacher with Fackenthal Piano Studio in the Hyde Park-Kenwood neighborhoods and performs regularly in the city including the University of Chicago’s Department of Music and the Chicago Public Library. In 2010, she established Hyde Park Allegro Music Camp for children to explore the musical arts, specifically instrumentation, singing, and folk dancing.Ms. Fackenthal is a member of Music Teachers of Hyde Park, Chicago Area Music Teachers Association, Music Teachers National Association and an Associate member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America and the Piano Technicians Guild. She holds degreesin economics and chemistry from the University of Rochester and Indiana University and also works as a science substitute teacher at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
